A seasonal workshop series designed to help families and teachers connect, grow, and learn together in the newly designed Fernleaf Kitchen Garden.
Grow With Us This Summer
We are excited to welcome Fernleaf families, teachers, and community members into the garden this summer for a series of hands-on workshops designed to foster connection, seasonal learning, and sensory experiences for both children and adults.
Workshops will take place monthly in the newly designed Fernleaf Kitchen Garden, thoughtfully created by Asheville Kitchen Gardens.
June 12th 2026
4pm - 5:00pm
Join us for our first summer workshop in the Fernleaf Kitchen Garden as we explore the garden and learn the foundation of our “leaves, roots, and fruits” planting method.
Workshop Activities:
Garden Scavenger Hunt & Plant Labeling
Children and families will work together to identify plants throughout the garden using a simple scavenger hunt or garden bingo activity.
Participants will then help label the garden beds using hand-written plant markers to support ongoing learning throughout the summer.
Seasonal Garden Handouts
Each participant will receive:
a seasonal growing guide tailored to our WNC climate
2–3 seasonal recipes featuring what is growing in the garden

Join us for our second summer workshop in the Fernleaf Kitchen Garden as we continue to explore the garden during the summer heat and learn about harvesting, pollinator care, and vertical growing techniques.
Workshop Activities:
Harvest exploration activity
Pollinator watering station creation
Painted garden rocks
Herb sensory station
Seasonal Garden Handouts
Each participant will receive:
Growing vertical guidebook
2–3 seasonal recipes featuring what is growing in the garden
Personal painted rock to display in the Fernleaf community garden

As summer begins to soften into fall, the garden reaches one of its most abundant and beautiful moments of the season.
Join us for our final summer series as we explore how to harvest herbs and summer vegetables for simple everyday meals at home while preparing the garden for the transition into fall growing.
Together, we’ll learn how seasonal rhythms shape the kitchen garden and discover practical ways to bring the beauty and abundance of the harvest into daily family life
Workshop Activities:
Culinary Herb sampling station with fresh local artisan bread
Fall flower planting along the living fence
Garden harvesting and simple seasonal clean-up
Seasonal Garden Handouts
Each participant will receive:
a fall planting plan &growing guide tailored to our WNC climate
